I love this book. Recipes are simple and use basic ingredients that I normally keep on hand. The taste... you will be surprised at how close they are to the familiar cooked versions. A must have book for every raw food kitchen or anyone that just wants to add a few healthy raw food dishes in their diet. If you miss the meat version of cooked chili, you must try the raw version of chili in this book. The Sweet and Sour Sauce is amazing.... I love this book. The recipes are delicious and easy to make. Kim uses ingredients that are affordable and readily available at either your local supermarket or health food store.
I have all of her books; they are a must- have for those who are serious about eating healthy.
I have the original version of this recipe book and have had it for a number of years. In fact, the back cover is worn off from so much use). Many of our favorite recipes came from this book. It's very informative and easy to use. If you purchase this book, I believe you will get a lot of good use from it. Some favorites are Creamy Pudding, Strawberry Cheesecake, Raw Apple Pie, Waldorf Salad, Coleslaw, several different flax crackers, Raw Balls.
I have been gleaning off Kim's website simplynaturalhealth.com and her books for years. I appreciate her encouraging and non-condeming way of directing and educating people willing to learn to live a better lifestyle. Although we have been healthy eaters for years vegetarian for 29 years and on year 2 for vegan, I learn and get inspired by Kim's creative ways to satisfy any palate. My favorites in this book (so far!) are - Marinated Veggie Salad p.82 - Banana Cream Pie p.225 and Coconut Banana Cream Pie p.224 - Garlic Caesar Dressing p.89 - Winter Pesto p.105 has replaced my regular pesto year round now - Sunflower and Almond Cheese p.127. I could go on and on, but they are great and every time I need inspiration for some new things into the routine, this is my go-to book and never fails! Thanks Kim for all your hard work to help us eat healthy and delicious food!
I own 5 of Kim's cookbooks, and I use and love them all, and have been using them as my main staple menu items for the last three years. I can say this about all of her cookbooks
Value Wow! The amount of recipes Kim puts in each cookbook is beyond generous. In contrast, I bought a raw cookbook for $20 and it had 20 recipes in it. Kim's are less than $15 and have at least 4 times that.
Ease Kim sticks to the basics with ingredients, and not one of her recipes is overwhelming, even in the raw book.
Wholesome In eating gluten free, many recipes out there contain fillers and starches that lack nutrition. Kim's recipes do not. Hers either have you soak grains overnight to blend into batters the next day, or she uses gf flours...no starches or fillers.
No sugar All of her recipes have natural sweeteners---honey, or agave or maple syrup.
No allergens All of her recipes avoid dairy and egg. She also makes recommendations if you are trying to avoid foods like corn, as many do not digest corn well.
These cookbooks are the foundation of my menu preparation, and the staples I make weekly. I highly recommend them!!
I've bought raw book after raw book, and I'm always disappointed in either the cost of the "specialty" ingredients, the time involved to make the recipes, or how most the recipes are "exotic" (aka not something my 2 children stuck on mac-n-cheese are going to try, much less enjoy eating!) "Everyday Wholesome Eating in the Raw" provides healthy, yet easy and inexpensive recipes, that are "normal" recipes for us average American folk. I do wish that the book had more recipes, but only because I was so pleased with all the recipes it DOES have. The pizza crust for example is so easy to make (soak, blender, "bake"! no chopping, mashing, etc.), cheap (contains very few ingredients), and actually tastes really good! No, it's not like Domino's down the street - it has a different taste/texture, but by no means a bad one! My 2 kids love it, as they love almost all the recipes in this book. This book has made me "the cool mom", as I can give my kids cookies or "fudge" for breakfast, knowing they are getting MORE nutrition than if they ate the traditional breakfast foods (like store bought waffles, cereal, etc.). If you have kids, or are weary of eating raw foods, get this book. You won't be disappointed! (by the way, is it just me, but are all the other raw food resources for people who DON'T have kids at home?! - they are either too expensive, too time intensive, or too weird for families with children!) Kim Wilson's book is the first raw book of its kind! (now I just hope there is a second one on its way to expand our recipe possibilities!).
Extras in this book that I love
- How she gives a "pick from" list for salads, smoothies, etc. That way you aren't bound to just what a specific recipe calls for, but rather can pick from the list depending on your taste, what is on sale or what is in your garden, etc. This also provides wonderful variety, as I can make so many different salads, smoothies, etc., from just a couple of well-thought-out lists provided in this book!
- Spiral bound book makes it so easy to have the book laying open on the counter or propped up nearby, to look at when making a specific recipe.
- General "raw eating and how-to" information
Great book, lots of good recipes which I love!
Love the book and it has a lot of good recipes. I am plant based and won't go completely raw, but this book is a help if what to lower cholesterol and get off meds.
